    Overview

    This 3.25-hour virtual-live course provides a deeper dive into implementing office-based treatment for opioid use disorder and addresses moving beyond common barriers that prevent DEA-waivered clinicians from successfully treating patients with OUD.

    Moving Beyond the Barriers of Treating Opioid Use Disorder is a case-based, interactive, virtual-live course that addresses moving beyond common barriers that prevent DEA-waivered clinicians from successfully treating patients with OUD. Common barriers related to implementing office-based treatment and patient care will be discussed, as well as how to address these barriers.

    The target audience for this introductory and intermediate course includes Healthcare providers who have not yet implemented their waiver or providers who face barriers to implementing their waiver.

    This course addresses the following ACGME Competencies: Patient Care, Procedural Skills and Medical Knowledge.

    Learning Objectives

    1. Recognize common barriers and challenges to implementing treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD)
    2. Apply evidence-based practices to overcome obstacles to treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD)
    3. Identify strategies to meet patient care needs with available resources to ensure continuity of care

    Dr. Nauts, MD, FASAM completed his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Michigan and joined an internal medicine group practice in Bellingham, Washington.  He left general internal medicine to develop his Addiction Medicine practice; since that time, he has been instrumental in the creation of 3 inpatient programs for those suffering with substance use and co-occurring disorders, outpatient SUD programs, and medication assisted treatment services.

    Debra Newman, PA-C, MSPAS, MPH serves as Treatment Provider for the First Judicial District Court, Adult Drug and Treatment Courts for Santa Fe County, New Mexico.     ASAM Criteria One-Day Foundations Course 

     Friday, November 19, 2021 

    8:30 am - 5:30 pm (CT)

    Overview

    This 8-hour live virtual course covers a comprehensive suite of competency-based learning activities in a live interactive webinar delivery format that meets the learning needs of the multiple audiences making use of the Criteria and results in the appropriate use of the Criteria in practice. This is a practical training designed to help develop patient-centered service plans and make objective decisions about patient admission, continuing care, and transfer/discharge for individuals with addictive, substance-related, and co-occurring conditions. 

    The workshop content is based on information found in The ASAM Criteria: Treatment Criteria for Addictive, Substance-Related, and Co-Occurring Conditions, Third Edition and incorporates an opportunity for participants to practice applying the information through case-based activities. Learners will have the opportunity to ask the presenter questions in real time, participate in polling questions and break into small groups. 

    The ASAM Criteria Course can also serve as a bridge to the implementation of a provider credentialing program. Providers who have completed ASAM approved training can gain the initial skill set to deliver care in compliance with The ASAM Criteria.

    The target audience for this beginner, intermediate, and advanced course include: counselors, social workers, payers, administrators, and other clinical staff.

    ACGME Competencies include: Patient Care and Procedural Skills, Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, and Systems Based Practice.

    Learning Objectives

    1. Describe the underlying principles and concepts of the ASAM Criteria
    2. Identify the six dimensions of the ASAM Criteria’s multidimensional patient assessment
    3. Determine treatment priorities based on risk assessment to guide treatment and service planning
    4. Determine an appropriate level of care and treatment priorities based on risk assessment
    5. Implement the ASAM Criteria, in the context of system challenges, for patients with addiction to ensure appropriate level of care and treatment outcomes.

    RN, MSN, FNP-BC

    Christine R. Mulford, RN, MSN, FNP-BC brings her more than 15 years of clinical and leadership experience as a Nurse Practitioner to the practice of addiction medicine. She is passionate about individualized patient care as well as community education to end the stigma of substance use and mental health issues.

    Together with her physician partner, she started the first Emergency Room based withdrawal management service in the greater Phoenix area. Additionally, she maintains a private addiction medicine practice in Scottsdale, Arizona. Christine received her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University where she was the 1998 Julia Hereford Merit Scholar. She resides in Phoenix, Arizona with her 2 sometimes well-behaved dogs. She enjoys live music, sports, and trying new hot sauces.

    Jennifer Harrison

    PhD, LMSW, CAADC

    Jennifer is a social worker, chemical addictions counselor, and an associate professor and the interim director for the School of Social Work at Western Michigan University.  Jennifer’s clinical work focuses on integrated substance use, mental health, and physical health services for individuals with co-occurring needs.  Her research interests and publication record include international social justice, co-occurring mental health, substance abuse, and medical needs among adults, implementation of evidence-based practices, and peer services in behavioral health.  

    Jennifer co-authored the book Tips and topics:  Opening the toolbox for transforming services and systems with David Mee-Lee.  She has presented on interprofessional research and teaching in the U.S and internationally, and served on multiple expert panels with SAMHSA.  Jennifer is a co-principal investigator in two HRSA funded projects to impact the interprofessional behavioral health workforce.  She has co-developed a digital application, Goal Scaling Solutions, for use in telehealth and education settings, to help people develop, monitor, and communicate about their goals for wellness and recovery.

    Overview

    This 8-hour live virtual course covers a comprehensive suite of competency-based learning activities in a live interactive webinar delivery format that meets the learning needs of the multiple audiences making use of the Criteria and results in the appropriate use of the Criteria in practice. This is a practical training designed to help develop patient-centered service plans and make objective decisions about patient admission, continuing care, and transfer/discharge for individuals with addictive, substance-related, and co-occurring conditions. 

    The workshop content is based on information found in The ASAM Criteria: Treatment Criteria for Addictive, Substance-Related, and Co-Occurring Conditions, Third Edition and incorporates an opportunity for participants to practice applying the information through case-based activities. Learners will have the opportunity to ask the presenter questions in real time, participate in polling questions and break into small groups. 

    The ASAM Criteria Course can also serve as a bridge to the implementation of a provider credentialing program. Providers who have completed ASAM approved training can gain the initial skill set to deliver care in compliance with The ASAM Criteria.

    The target audience for this beginner, intermediate, and advanced course include: counselors, social workers, payers, administrators, and other clinical staff.

    ACGME Competencies include: Patient Care and Procedural Skills, Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, and Systems Based Practice.

    Learning Objectives

    1. Describe the underlying principles and concepts of the ASAM Criteria
    2. Identify the six dimensions of the ASAM Criteria’s multidimensional patient assessment
    3. Determine treatment priorities based on risk assessment to guide treatment and service planning
    4. Determine an appropriate level of care and treatment priorities based on risk assessment
    5. Implement the ASAM Criteria, in the context of system challenges, for patients with addiction to ensure appropriate level of care and treatment outcomes.

    RN, MSN, FNP-BC

    Christine R. Mulford, RN, MSN, FNP-BC brings her more than 15 years of clinical and leadership experience as a Nurse Practitioner to the practice of addiction medicine. She is passionate about individualized patient care as well as community education to end the stigma of substance use and mental health issues.

    Together with her physician partner, she started the first Emergency Room based withdrawal management service in the greater Phoenix area. Additionally, she maintains a private addiction medicine practice in Scottsdale, Arizona. Christine received her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University where she was the 1998 Julia Hereford Merit Scholar. She resides in Phoenix, Arizona with her 2 sometimes well-behaved dogs. She enjoys live music, sports, and trying new hot sauces.

    Jennifer Harrison

    PhD, LMSW, CAADC

    Jennifer is a social worker, chemical addictions counselor, and an associate professor and the interim director for the School of Social Work at Western Michigan University.  Jennifer’s clinical work focuses on integrated substance use, mental health, and physical health services for individuals with co-occurring needs.  Her research interests and publication record include international social justice, co-occurring mental health, substance abuse, and medical needs among adults, implementation of evidence-based practices, and peer services in behavioral health.  

    Jennifer co-authored the book Tips and topics:  Opening the toolbox for transforming services and systems with David Mee-Lee.  She has presented on interprofessional research and teaching in the U.S and internationally, and served on multiple expert panels with SAMHSA.  Jennifer is a co-principal investigator in two HRSA funded projects to impact the interprofessional behavioral health workforce.  She has co-developed a digital application, Goal Scaling Solutions, for use in telehealth and education settings, to help people develop, monitor, and communicate about their goals for wellness and recovery.

    Virtual-Live Course 

    Overview

    This 8-hour, virtual live course covers treating opioid use disorder by using interactive, case-based learning to teach evidence-based practices and also provides the required education needed to obtain the waiver to prescribe buprenorphine.  This course covers all medications and treatments for opioid use disorder, and provides the required education needed to obtain the waiver to prescribe buprenorphine. ASAM is an approved provider by CSAT/SAMHSA of DATA 2000 training. 

    The target audience for this introductory level activity includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified nurse midwives, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and clinical nurse specialists who wish to obtain a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine in an office-based setting for opioid use disorder.

    This activity addresses the following ACGME Competencies: Patient Care and Medical Knowledge.

    Learning Objectives

    Upon completion learners, will be able to:

    1. Identify, assess and diagnose patients with opioid use disorder while considering severity, chronicity, individual characteristics, and psychiatric and medical comorbidities
    2. Develop an individualized, patient-centered treatment plan including negotiating treatment goals by evaluating appropriate medication- and psychosocial-based treatment options
    3. Monitor progress and modify treatment plan based on patient needs and progress toward treatment goals
    4. Implement best practices for office systems including team-based care to support treatment with medications for opioid use disorder
    5. Examine misconceptions, stigma, and complexities (bioethical, social, clinical, public health) associated with opioid use disorder and the use of medications to treat opioid use disorder

    David W. Streem, M.D. is a staff psychiatrist and Medical Director of the Alcohol and Drug Recovery Center at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He is certified both in psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has been a diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine since May 2009. He has been a certified Medical Review Officer since 2005. He has been the Quality Review Officer in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology since 2011, and the Neurological Institute’s Compliance Officer since 2015. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and previously served as Co-Course Director for the Neuromuscular Sciences curriculum. Dr. Streem held the position of Adult Psychiatry Residency Program Director from 2007 to 2009.

    How to Apply for a Waiver

    Physicians

    SAMHSA reviews waiver applications within 45 business days of receipt. If approved, you will receive a letter via email that confirms your waiver and includes your prescribing identification number.

    Waiver applications are forwarded to the DEA. DEA regulations require your prescribing identification number to be included on all buprenorphine prescriptions for opioid dependency treatment, along with your regular DEA number.

    If you have not received confirmation of receipt of your application, or if it has been more than 45 business days since submitting it, contact CSAT by email: infobuprenorphine@samhsa.hhs.gov or call 866.287.2728.

    Other Approved Prescribers

    Apply

    NPs and PAs may upload copies of their training certificates on the Waiver Notification Form. NPs and PAs who have completed the 24 hours of required training may seek to obtain a DATA 2000 waiver for up to 30 patients by completing the Waiver Notification Form. Effective February 27, 2017, SAMHSA will only accept electronic submissions of the NOI.

    These waiver applications are forwarded to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which will assign the NP or PA a special identification number. DEA regulations require this number to be included on all buprenorphine prescriptions for opioid dependency treatment, along with the NP’s or PA’s regular DEA registration number.

    SAMHSA shall review waiver applications within 45 days of receipt. If approved, NPs and PAs will receive a letter via email that confirms their waiver and includes their prescribing identification number. 

    Qualifications

    To qualify for a waiver to treat patients with Opioid Use Disorder, NPs and PAs must:

    • Be licensed under state law to prescribe schedule III, IV, or V medications for pain
    • Complete no less than 24 hours of appropriate education through a qualified provider
    • Through other training or experience, demonstrate the ability to treat and manage OUD
    • If required by state law, supervision or working in collaboration with a qualifying physician to prescribe medications for the treatment of OUD may be required.

    Please ensure that your state regulations allow you to prescribe buprenorphine and other medications to treat OUD before you apply for the waiver.  Some states may have overriding state legislation that will prevent NPs from prescribing these medications even if Federal law allows it.

    Overview of Legislation

    Physicians

    The Drug Abuse Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA 2000) specifies training is necessary for physicians to obtain a waiver to engage in office‐based treatment of opioid use disorders using drugs approved by the FDA on Schedules III, IV, and V. This course addresses those requirements using a curriculum approved by CSAT/SAMHSA and ASAM, who is one of the national organizations named in the DATA 2000 legislation as eligible to prepare and administer these courses.

    Nurse Practitioners & Physician Assistants

    On July 22, 2016, President Obama signed the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) into law. CARA authorizes qualified NPs and PAs to become waivered to prescribe buprenorphine in office-based settings for patients with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) for a five-year period expiring in October 2021.    

    To qualify, NPs and PAs must: 

    • Be licensed under state law to prescribe schedule III, IV, or V medications for pain  
    • Complete not less than 24 hours of appropriate education through a qualified provider
    • Through other training or experience, demonstrate the ability to treat and manage OUD  
    • If required by state law, be supervised or work in collaboration with a qualifying physician to prescribe medications for the treatment of OUD

    HHS' announcement on November 16, 2016, enables NPs and PAs to immediately begin taking the 24 hours of required training. For the full HHS announcement, click here.

    NPs and PAs can begin the training immediately by taking the 8-hour buprenorphine course ASAM currently offers or that other stakeholders offer (see below for more information). The remaining 16 hours will have to be completed with one training provider. ASAM is developing multiple 16-hour training course options and formats, including collaborations with:

    Virtual-Live Workshop

    Overview

    This 8-hour, virtual-live workshop is designed for providers new to the field of addiction medicine in settings such as primary care, emergency care, and behavioral health, who see patients at risk for or with substance use disorders (SUDs).

    The ASAM Fundamentals of Addiction Medicine is an innovative, case-based workshop provides education and tools to learn more about addiction medicine and how to screen, diagnose, treat, and/or refer patients with addiction. This live virtual workshop is designed to be energetic and interactive. Sessions throughout the series will include lecture, demonstration of skills and skill building.

    Addiction is a disease that continues to devastate our communities, but there are treatments available to help patients. Participants of this workshop will learn more about addiction medicine and how to screen, diagnose, treat, and/or refer patients with addiction – many of whom are already being seen for commonly occurring medical and psychiatric comorbidities. 

    The target audience for this introductory level activity include: Physicians, Nurse Practitioners/Nurses, Physician Assistants, Counselors, and Other healthcare providers.

    This activity addresses the following ACGME Competencies: Patient Care and Procedural Skills, Practice-based Learning and Improvement, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Professionalism, and Systems-based Practice.

    Learning Objectives

    Upon completion, learners will be able to:

    1. Identify your own feelings and attitudes that promote or prevent therapeutic responses to patients with substance use disorders
    2. Explain what occurs in the brain of a person with substance use disorder in terms of the brain's neurobiology
    3. Use validated patient screening tools to detect substance use and interpret a spectrum of results
    4. Use motivational interviewing to enhance patients' readiness to change risky behaviors
    5. Offer the interventions that are appropriate to specific substances and severity of usage patterns
    6. Respond to hazardous drinking with brief counseling strategies appropriate to the patient's readiness to change
    7. For patients suspected of having a SUD, conduct a biopsychosocial assessment to provide a diagnosis and match the patient to an appropriate level of care
    8. Prescribe pharmacotherapy appropriately for alcohol, tobacco, and opioid use disorders

    Daniel A. Nauts

    MD, FASAM

    Daniel A. Nauts, MD, FASAM completed his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Michigan and joined an internal medicine group practice in Bellingham, Washington.  He left general internal medicine to develop his Addiction Medicine practice; since that time, he has been instrumental in the creation of 3 inpatient programs for those suffering with substance use and co-occurring disorders, outpatient SUD programs, and medication assisted treatment services. 

    Dr. Nauts is an independent contractor for the Montana Primary Care Association providing MAT waiver trainings and technical assistance, community forums on opioid use disorders, academic detailing activities for MAT providers, and helping in strategies to taper patients off high dose morphine equivalents.  Not only is he committed to integrating addiction medicine into primary care but also in promoting the development of more addiction medicine specialists in Montana.

    He is active in the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), delivers a myriad of presentations for any professional or public audience, has participated in addressing physician and nurse health issues through Professional Assistance Programs, and has provided Addiction Medicine experiences for residents of the Western Montana Family Practice Program and PA students from the University of Washington Medex Program.

    He is a member of the Drug Utilization Board of Mountain Pacific Quality Health providing oversight to the Medicaid formulary, is recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (FASAM), and is certified in the subspecialty of Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.  He is the treasurer for the Northwest Society of Addiction Medicine, a Chapter of American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) representing Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming and is a faculty member of ASAM to provide Data 2000 MAT waiver trainings and The Fundamentals of Addiction Medicine.

    Dr. Nauts is the 2019 recipient of the Award of Merit presented by the Montana Medical Association honoring the work he has done to improve healthcare in Montana.

    Robert Sherrick

    MD, FASAM

    Dr. Robert Sherrick, MD, FASAM, is Chief Medical Officer for Community Medical Services, a company that serves patients through its 30 Opioid Treatment Programs in 8 different states.  Dr. Sherrick completed medical training and residency in Internal Medicine at George Washington University.  After 5 years on the faculty at George Washington,he moved to Montana to join a private practice in Internal Medicine.  Since 1994, Dr. Sherrick has worked at an inpatient addiction treatment facility, Pathways, where he has treated all forms of Substance Use Disorders and has served as the CD Medical Director. Dr. Sherrick has been providing Medication Assisted Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder since 2003, initially in an office setting using buprenorphine and naltrexone.  In 2009, Dr. Sherrick closed his private practice and moved to VA Montana.  Over the next 7 years at VA Montana he developed a state-wide MAT program that was one of the first uses of telemedicine for providing MAT to rural areas.  Dr. Sherrick has been working for Community Medical Services since 2010, providing MAT services with methadone, buprenorphine, and naloxone as well as serving as Northern Medical Director.  He has been Chief Medical Officer for the last year.  He is currently the President of the Northwest Chapter of ASAM. He is Board Certified in Addiction Medicine through the American Board of Preventative Medicine.

    1. A 27-year-old M presents to the ED with cellulitis from IVDU. He had relapsed with fentanyl and cocaine in April 2020 as a month Rx his pharmacy changed to delivering all medication early in the COVID-19 pandemic and his Rx was “stolen”. He’d gone without buprenorphine/naloxone for several days and, unable to contact his clinic, he’d used heroin/fentanyl then was, “just back at it....” Interested in getting back into treatment and restarting buprenorphine/naloxone as soon as possible.
    2. A 38-year-old M is interested in getting help for stimulant and opioid use but the inpatient program he’d wanted to enter is “holding admits due to a COVID19 outbreak,” and there is a two-week wait for either telemedicine or on-site evaluation at the county treatment program in a rural part of the state. After 3 days of trying to “detox at home,” he presents to the Emergency Department because, “I didn’t know what else to do.” Patient is in florid opioid withdrawal with rhinorrhea, tearing, yawns repeatedly, has vomiting and diarrhea and is extremely anxious and restless.

    1. A 29-year-old G2P10012 female delivers a 7 lb 2.8 oz baby boy at 38 3/7 weeks. Apgars at 1 min and 5 min 7 and 8. At 33 hours the newborn is noticed to be “jittery, have increased tone, very spitty” and has 6 x stools and 7 x emesis. Scoring 11 and 9 for NAS and transferred the following day to a tertiary care center. Mother has been diagnosed with BPAD and was taking a variety of medications, including venlafaxine, throughout pregnancy. No urine or meconium testing done. Toxicology consulted as patient’s NAS have increased to >15 on day 3 despite use of clonidine 1 mcg/kg/6 hours and phenobarbital 2.5 mg/kg/day. Is this SNRI withdrawal/discontinuation? How do you proceed?
    2. A 27-year-old female with a long history of polydrug dependence, including opioids and stimulants, had been staying in a local YWCA-associated program for women in recovery. She was prescribed 8/2 mg buprenorphine/naloxone SL TID and had been taking that for 6 months. She was also prescribed gabapentin 800 mg PO TID (though reported taking extra at times). Other meds include clonidine (taken intermittently). After delivery, her baby is scoring much higher than anticipated, despite treatment for NAS, and the NICU consults Toxicology for evaluation regarding possible gabapentin and other substance withdrawal as well.

    2. A 25-year-old M is brought to the ED from jail after turning himself in. His significant other had encouraged him to do so for warrant, partly because he needed to stop using K2 and “sort everything out for a while.” During a search, several balloons containing a substance are discovered and two are recovered by the guards; however, one is grabbed and swallowed by the individual. He is brought to the ED and, shortly after arrival, has a seizure. His UDS is positive for fentanyl and negative for everything else.

    Overview

    This 45-minute, on-demand session from the ASAM 2021 Review Course covers evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Network Therapies, and case management as they relate to addiction treatment.

    Non-pharmacologic modalities are often used in addiction treatment. This session reviews common terminology and concepts in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Participants will also learn about other evidence-based modalities like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Network Therapies, and case management as they relate to addiction treatment.

    The target audience for this introductory and intermediate level activity includes: Physicians preparing for the ABPM or AOA Board Certification Examination in addiction medicine, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, other clinicians, researchers, residents, fellows, students, and counselors.

    This activity addresses the following ACGME Competencies: Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, and Practice-Based Learning and Improvement

    Learning Objectives

    Upon completion, learners will be able to:

    3. Describe the process for diagnosing addiction and differentiating the symptoms of addiction from those of other medical or psychiatric disorders

    Carla Marienfeld, MD, DFAPA, FASAM

    Addiction Psychiatrist and Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Diego

    Carla Marienfeld, MD, is a board-certified addiction psychiatrist and Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Diego who supports recovery in an evidence based, harm-reduction approach through therapy, motivational interviewing, and medication treatment. Her research involves analysis of electronic medical record data for individuals with substance use disorders. She has authored or co-authored over 35 peer reviewed articles, book chapters, practice guidelines, and invited commentaries, and she edited two books: Motivational Interviewing for Clinical Practice and Absolute Addiction Psychiatry Review: An essential board exam study guide. She has been highly involved in education of colleagues and trainees about addiction psychiatry and effective interventions including buprenorphine treatment and motivational interviewing, and she is the fellowship director for the UCSD Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship. Dr. Marienfeld completed a fellowship in addiction psychiatry and residency training in psychiatry at Yale. During her residency, she was chief resident of psychiatry and founded (and later led) the Yale Global Mental Health Program. She earned a medical degree with honors from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

    AMA/AAFP Equivalency

    Through the American Board of Medical Specialties (“ABMS”) ongoing commitment to increase access to practice relevant Continuing Certification Activities through the ABMS Continuing Certification Directory, The ASAM Virtual Review Course in Addiction Medicine has met the requirements as a MOC Part II CME Activity (apply toward general CME requirement) for the following ABMS Member Boards: Allergy and Immunology, Anesthesiology, Colon and Rectal Surgery, Family Medicine, Medical Genetics and Genomics, Nuclear Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Plastic Surgery, Preventive Medicine, Psychiatry and Neurology, Radiology, Thoracic Surgery, Urology.

    American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM)
    The American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) has approved this activity for a maximum of 19 LLSA credits towards ABPM MOC Part II requirements.

    American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA)
    This activity contributes to the CME component of the American Board of Anesthesiology’s redesigned Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology TM (MOCA®) program, known as MOCA 2.0®.

    American Board of Pediatrics (ABP)
    Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the activity, with individual assessments of the participant and feedback to the participant, enables the participant to earn a maximum of 19 MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABP MOC credit.

    American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)
    Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 19 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credits.

    American Board of Surgery (ABS)
    Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME and/or Self-Assessment requirements of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABS credit.

    Successful completion of this CME activity can be used to satisfy the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology’s (ABPN) CME requirement for Maintenance of Certification program.

    Successful completion of this activity can be used to satisfy the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM) for Tmoc as credits towards ABAM LLSA Part II requirements.

    Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
    Royal College Fellows can use participation in Accredited Continuing Medical Education to earn Section 3 Credits.
