About This Education

This education program consists of three main components—an online course, a microlearning video series, and a fact sheet—designed for primary care providers and addiction medicine specialists. It highlights the unique factors influencing the development, progression, and treatment of substance use disorders (SUDs) in women, empowering healthcare providers to foster more inclusive and equitable treatment environments.

Learners will gain competence in implementing Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) practices tailored specifically for women. This includes conducting gender-sensitive screenings, delivering brief interventions, and exploring appropriate treatment and referral options. The program emphasizes improving patient safety, treatment engagement, and long-term outcomes by addressing misconceptions, overcoming barriers, and enhancing care practices. Practical strategies and actionable tools are provided to help healthcare providers achieve better health outcomes for women with SUDs.
