This one-hour, on-demand, journal article-based activity presents original research concerning the integration of a community Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) into a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), an approach to expand access to methadone treatment and to promote retention in treatment among patients with opioid use disorder. This study validates this model as a way to increase access to both treatment for OUD and primary care for urban, underserved patient populations.

This one-hour, on-demand, journal article-based activity presents original research on the impact of the opioid intervention court (OIC) as an alternative to traditional treatment courts for people with OUD who are involved with the criminal-legal system and at high risk of overdose. The OICs more rapidly link court participants to treatment in comparison to traditional drug courts. As the time between arrest and post-arraignment drug court entry is one of high risk and may suspend access to treatment for OUD, OICs may demonstrate improved ability to immediately stabilize and reduce overdose risk in court participants.

This one-hour, on-demand, journal article-based activity presents a scoping review on the efficacy of GLP-1 agonists in the treatment of patients with substance use disorder. While there is interest in exploring the use of GLP-1 agonists in the treatment of SUD, evidence for safety and efficacy of GLP-1 agonists in humans is limited. The results of this scoping review are mixed, and the authors call for further research to determine the efficacy of GLP-1 agonists in treating SUD.

This one-hour, on-demand, journal article-based activity presents a scoping review on the prevalence of high-potency synthetic opioids (HPSOs) in the nonmedical drug supply and their interactions with medications for opioid use disorder (MOUDs). The interactions between HPSOs and MOUDs are not yet well understood. This review examines the relationship between HPSO exposure and patient outcomes when using common MOUD treatment protocols. It also discusses the implications for clinical practice and suggests directions for future research based on the current research on patient populations impacted by HPSOs.

This one-hour, on-demand, journal article-based activity presents original research on models that support successful transitions to long-term medical and substance use disorder (SUD) care for hospitalized patients with SUD. Using an expert consensus approach, existing SUD care transition models were evaluated for effectiveness and implementation with an analysis of factors associated with the greatest potential to enhance posthospitalization care transitions. According to the expert panelists, the
models considered to have the greatest potential to enhance posthospitalization SUD care transitions were the interdisciplinary addiction consult team (ACT), in-reach from partnering outpatient clinics, and bridge clinics.

This one-hour, on-demand, journal article-based activity reviews a large cross-sectional study of kratom consumers to evaluate the potential risk for dependency and addiction with kratom consumption and assess the prevalence of kratom use disorder. Up to this time, research about kratom use bas been limited and the prevalence of Kratom Use Disorder (KUD) and indivudual characteristics associated with KUD has not been well understood. The purpose of this study is to improve to gain a clearer clinical understanding of Kratom Use Disorder and better inform the medical community that interacts with patients who consume kratom about the risks of KUD development.

This one-hour, on-demand, journal article-based activity explores original qualitative research on patient perspectives regarding buprenorphine discontinuation in the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD). Little is currently known about the causes of medication discontinuation from the patient perspective. Despite buprenorphine and other medications for OUD being the recommended standard care of treatment for OUD and the benefits of positive health and addiction-related outcomes associated with them, half of patients discontinue medication use in the first year of treatment. Emerging in interviews with patients with OUD treated with buprenorphine were three main themes related to medication discontinuation: health system barriers, adverse effects (or apparent adverse events) associated with the medication, and patient motivations. The purpose of this activity is to better understand patient perspectives around themes of discontinuation and to explore some clinical strategies to enhance patient retention.

This one-hour, on-demand, journal article-based activity details an observational study exploring the relationship between higher first 30-day buprenorphine doses and subsequent rates of opioid-involved overdose death and death from all other causes. The study provides evidence that higher initial doses of buprenorphine are associated with lower mortality rates, supporting the benefits of higher dosing in MOUD treatment. Its findings may inform and improve current clinical practice standards, enhancing patient safety and reducing mortality.
