ASAM Clinical Case Scenarios for Payers - Module 17
Updated: 03.2024
On-Demand Module
Overview
This 30-minute intermediate, on-demand module covers risk ratings, interactivity between dimensions, level of withdrawal management, level of care, and additional services added to their level of care placement.
This module is part of the ASAM Clinical Case Payer Vignettes, an intermediate series of twenty online modules (rolled out throughout 2022) that test payers on their understanding of The ASAM Criteria and how it is applied to real-world influenced cases in order to help payers become more versed in utilizing The ASAM Criteria. Each vignette offers a scenario of an individual who is either entering substance use disorder (SUD) treatment or continuing SUD treatment. The learner must determine certain aspects of each individual’s treatment and align them with ASAM’s peer reviewed rationales. The learner will be guided to key concepts in The ASAM Criteria textbook if they have trouble understanding the vignette’s highlighted principles. All modules will be available to learners as a full 10-hour course or can be taken individually to fill learner knowledge gaps in The ASAM Criteria topics.
The target audience for this module includes: counselors, social workers, administrators, and other clinical staff who have taken The ASAM Criteria Foundations course and would like to test themselves on The ASAM Criteria.
This session addresses the following ACGME Competencies: Medical Knowledge and Systems Based Practice.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion, learners will be able to:
- Understand The ASAM Criteria multidimensional assessment and how it applies to the patient's level of care placement
- Apply the information given in the multidimensional assessment by determining the individual’s risk ratings in each of The ASAM Criteria dimensions
- Identify and establish what dimensional interactions are occurring within the patient's multidimensional assessment
- Determine level of care placement for the patient and apply knowledge about The ASAM Criteria through assessment
