Overview

This 60-minute on-demand session from the ASAM 57th Annual Conference addresses mastering media skills to promote addiction treatment, covering story pitching, journalist engagement, and interview preparation techniques.

Addiction medicine clinicians can expand their impact by confidently engaging with the media to promote awareness and evidence-based care. Through concise instruction and hands-on practice, this dynamic session equips providers to identify newsworthy stories within their practices, connect with the media, address addiction in pop culture, and deliver treatment messages on camera with clarity, confidence, and clinical credibility.

The target audience for this Intermediate level session includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, other clinicians, researchers, residents, fellows, and students.

This session addresses the following ACGME Competencies: Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Professionalism, Systems-based Practice.

This session addresses the following IPEC Competencies: Communication.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, learners will be able to:

1. Identify newsworthy stories or initiatives within their clinical practice that could engage the media and promote addiction treatment.
2. Describe effective strategies for contacting journalists, pitching stories, and tailoring messages across traditional and social media platforms.
3. Demonstrate how to prepare for a media interview, including what to expect, how to stay on message, and how to deliver key points clearly and confidently.

2. Click Complete Post Test to answer multiple choice questions. You will have 10 attempts to pass and must answer 4 out of 5 questions correctly.
3. Click Complete Evaluation to provide valuable activity feedback. Scroll down on all questions as there may be answer options that expand past the size of the window.
4. Click the button Claim Medical Credits in the box titled Claim Credits & Certificate. Choose the type of credit and click submit. Click the button View/Print Certificate to save or print your certificate. You can view/print your certificate at any time by visiting the ASAM eLearning Center, clicking Dashboard, and clicking Transcript/Achievements.

PAs

ASAM has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria.
