CCBHC ECHO Session: Treating Special Populations with Substance Use Disorders
Host: National Council / American Society of Addiction Medicine
Thursday, February 13, 2025| 3:00pm - 4:30pm ET
Overview
CCBHC-E National Training and Technical Assistance Center (CCBHC-E NTTAC) has partnered with ASAM to provide a 6-session CCBHC Project ECHO on assessing and treating individuals with high-risk use and substance use disorders (SUDs) with a specific focus on special populations. This 1.5-hour Project ECHO series offers a comprehensive, in-depth analysis of actual patient cases attendees submit. Participants will receive guidance and feedback from a diverse expert faculty panel. This program is tailored for professionals new to the field of SUD treatment, providing them with targeted didactics and case-based learning to enhance their knowledge, skills, and confidence. This introductory program is specifically designed for CCBHC grant recipients, including social workers, therapists, and additional clinical team members involved in patient care. Register for each session today!
In this session, we will describe special populations, defined as groups of individuals with unique substance use treatment needs or those who are underserved. We will present the unique epidemiology and treatment needs of selected special populations, including minoritized racial and ethnic groups, women, and people experiencing homelessness. We will present possible approaches to rectifying inequities through innovative treatment models.
This activity addresses the following ACGME Competencies: Patient-Centered Care, Evidence-Based Practice, Roles & Responsibilities, Interpersonal Communication, Teams and Teamwork, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, and Professionalism.
***This activity is eligible for CE Credits.
Each ECHO session includes:
- 15-minutes to get to know your community of practice and expert faculty.
- A 40-minute presentation focused on a selected topic related to addiction.
- One 35-minute interactive case discussion led by a team of interdisciplinary addiction experts.
- The opportunity to earn up to 1.5 continuing education (CE) credits for each session.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion, learners will be able to:
- Recognize and apply evidence-based addiction treatment approaches, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, within the CCBHC context.
- Develop a community of mentors and colleagues to support professional development and build confidence in providing best practices in patient care for patients with Substance Use Disorders.
- Analyze real patient cases to identify barriers to treatment and discuss solutions to overcome those barriers to ensure the best evidence-based treatment options, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment, for patients with addiction.
- Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with patients and professional colleagues and demonstrate a commitment to the health and well-being of individuals and society through ethical practice, profession-led regulation, and high personal standards of behavior.
