ASAM is the largest provider of addiction medicine education in the country, offering continuing medical education on a variety of addiction-related topics. ASAM has been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) since 1977 and maintains the highest level of Accreditation with Commendation.
ASAM provides a variety of faculty resources to promote excellence in teaching and learning, such as in-depth orientation and custom consultations to faculty to encourage effective instruction, using creative methods that meld practice and pedagogy.

ASAM delivers an array of educational offerings and options to educate providers and the public about the specialty of addiction medicine. ASAM is looking for eager and passionate faculty to offer live and online CME opportunities, focusing on improving the care and treatment of people with the disease of addiction. To join our team of qualified faculty, review the application process below and complete the faculty application.
Am I Eligible?
Individuals applying to become an ASAM faculty applicants must meet the following requirements. Individual program applications will list additional requirements, if applicable.
- Be an ASAM member (Join ASAM)
- Doctorate or Master's degree in the related field (preferred)
- Knowledge and content expertise in the teaching discipline
- Teaching experience in relevant field
- Demonstrated ability to effectively deliver presentations without bias and navigate audience Q&A
- Equivalent professional/experiential qualifications
- No relevant financial disclosures
Application Requirements
Prospective faculty must complete the online application form and submit the following documents to be considered for faculty assignments.

- Faculty Questionnaire
- Teaching Demo (optional)

Faculty Application Process
Faculty applications go through the following steps of review and approval on an ongoing basis.
Faculty Application Submission
Complete the faculty application form along with all the supporting documentation. To ensure full consideration, all materials should be submitted by the date indicated within the application form.

Faculty applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Faculty selections will be based on the eligibility criteria outlined above, relevant experience/expertise in the teaching discipline, and ASAM's current teaching needs. If there is no current need, your information will remain in our faculty database for future teaching opportunities.
On-boarding and Orientation
Selected applicants will be required to complete a faculty contract upon acceptance of the teaching assignment. New faculty will complete an in-depth orientation and on-boarding process to prepare them to represent ASAM and bring the latest, evidence-based practices to a national audience.
Earn CME for Teaching
Physician presenters may now claim up to 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ per each 1-hour of presentation time at eligible activities taking place on or after January 1, 2023. This change is only for faculty at the CME provider’s live activities.
Earn CME Credit for Teaching
New Policy
The American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates adopted a new policy to allow physicians to claim an amount of AMA Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA) Category 1 Credit™ that more accurately reflects the learning associated with preparing and presenting an original presentation at a live AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ activity. While the credit reflects the learning involved in the preparation, the amount of credit is based on presentation time.
Credit Requirements
Physician presenters may now claim up to 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ per each 1-hour of presentation time at eligible activities taking place on or after January 1, 2023. This change is only for faculty at the CME provider’s live activities.
Physician presenters will be sent a link to complete the CME evaluation and download their certificate.
