Course Overview 

Welcome to The ASAM Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder Course. This course provides 8 hours of online education needed for physicians to receive a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine in an office-based setting. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants will need to complete an additional 16 hours (which can be accessed through the ASAM Fundamentals 40-Hour Program) in order to meet the requirements to apply for and obtain their waiver. More information on waiver requirements can be found on the SAMHSA website. Participants who choose to complete a live or blended course instead of the online version, or who have already completed an 8-hour waiver-qualifying treatment through ASAM or another group, may submit that CME certificate to fulfill this activity of the 40-Hour Program.

  • Take additional online 16-hours to obtain your waiver (not required for 40-Hour Program but can be used as Elective Topic activity hours)

Physician Assistant

  • Take additional online 16-hours to obtain your waiver (not required for 40-Hour Program but can be used as Elective Topic activity hours)

Participants of the 40-Hour Program receive access to the ONLINE 8-hour training (for both physicians and clinicians) and ONLINE additional 16-hour training (for NPs and PAs) with registration to the program. Live and blended courses are not included in the registration price and additional fees may apply.
