Overview

This 1-hour on-demand session from ASAM Virtual 2021 addresses the valuable lessons learned from peer coaches in a telehealth model through cases, discussion, and skill demonstrations.

In this workshop, we will share valuable lessons we have learned as peer coaches in a telehealth model. Through de-identified cases, discussion, and skill demonstrations, workshop participants will learn ways they can bring the benefits of these lessons to their own patients. Teaching Methods Description: Case Studies We will make use of several brief de-identified cases to provide concrete examples of common patients circumstances. These cases will provide a contrast between 1) standard brick-and-mortar care without peer coaches and 2) peer coaches who have the flexibility, responsiveness, and accessibility of telehealth.

The target audience for this introductory level session includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, other clinicians, researchers, residents, fellows, students, and counselors.

This session addresses the following ACGME Competencies: Patient Care, Interpersonal Skills, Professionalism, Systems Based Practice.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, learners will be able to:

1. Define the unique role of the peer coach in fostering participants’ recovery capital in relation to other treatment team members
2. Identify 3 challenges and benefits to initiating peer coaching services via telehealth
3. Identify 2 ways the addiction professional can connect participants in their own practice with peer coaching services

1. Click the "Contents" tab and select "View On-Demand Recording".  After viewing the entire video, return to the Contents tab.
2. Click "Complete Post Test" to answer quiz questions. You will have 10 attempts and must get at least 2 out of 3 questions correct. After completing the quiz, return to the Contents tab. 
3. Click "Complete Evaluation" to answer evaluation questions. Scroll down on all questions, there are answers that expand past the size of the window. 
4. Click the button “Claim Credits” in the box titled “Claim Credits & Certificate." Choose the type of credit and click submit. Click the button “View/Print Certificate” to save or print your certificate. If you ever lose your certificate, you can come back to the ASAM e-Learning Center and view it on your transcript (found in the Dashboard).
